CALIBRATION WORKSHEET GUIDE

What belongs in a calibration worksheet?

A useful worksheet preserves how a result was reached, not just a PASS label. A technician records observations; a reviewer needs to reconstruct the supporting conditions.

Identity, method and reference

Identify the device under test (DUT), function, range and measurement points; cite the relevant procedure revision, specification and reference standard. A reference-standard identification number or sticker alone does not establish metrological traceability. Supporting evidence and applicable uncertainty must be examined.

As-found versus as-left

As-found means observations recorded before intervention. As-left means observations after adjustment, repair or other action. Preserve the former even when an instrument is corrected. Keep units, readings, test direction, environmental conditions and repetition information with the correct session.

Error, tolerance, uncertainty and decision

Separate reference values, DUT indications and calculated error from the applicable tolerance and uncertainty. Make the declared decision rule explicit. Depending on guard bands, a point inside nominal tolerance can still need review. A printable worksheet PDF is not itself an issued calibration certificate.

Try the public example

The public METRAXIOM Builder supports an uncontrolled evaluation worksheet and bounded PDF output. Its visitor acknowledgment does not confer authority to issue controlled customer results.

Reviewer checklist

Can the reviewer identify the DUT and reference, recover the source method, reproduce each calculation, identify uncertainty assumptions and decision rules, and determine who had authority to review? Missing information warrants investigation, not manufactured certainty.
